Corporate Fasting

Sunday January 2, 2011
Speaker:

II Chron. 20:1-3 tells us that Jehoshaphat, king of Judah, feared the Lord, set himself to seek the Him, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah. The fast was called to seek the Lord and to hear His voice. Fasting changes the person. Spiritual things follow the physical. Cleansing takes out the toxins and wastes, just as fasting does, to help usher in a sense of the holiness of God. Before there is a corporate (a church body) fast, God has to bring unity. In Acts 10:30-34 Cornelius was fasting, praying, and giving alms, seeking the Lord, and an angel appeared to him. Did Cornelius know what he was fasting and praying for? No, but they helped prepare him to hear and obey God’s messenger. During this corporate 21-day fast in January, present your body as a living sacrifice (Rom. 12:1) and keep it under.
